A Legislative Update for Trusts and Private Client Practitioners

Ended November 29, 2017

Morven McMillan of Maples and Calder will be presenting , 'A Legislative Update for Trusts and Private Client Practitioners' . 2017 saw a number of legislative changes with implications for trusts and private client practitioners in the Cayman Islands. This seminar will cover three: the Non-Profit Organisations Law, 2017 (the "NPO Law"), the Foundation Companies Law, 2017  (the "Foundation Companies Law")  and the Trusts Law (2017 Revision) (the "Trusts Law").

The NPO Law and the accompanying NPO (Registration Application) Regulations, 2017 provide for the establishment of a registration system which deals with the regulation and monitoring of non-profit organisations in the Cayman Islands.

The Foundation Companies Law allows for the formation of a new Cayman Islands vehicle; the Foundation Company, a body corporate with a legal personality distinct from that of its member, directors, officers, supervisors and founder.

The Trusts Law consolidated a number of amendments designed to ensure that our statutory framework for the administration of trusts remains up to date.

In next week's seminar, Morven will be taking us through what we "need to know" from these legislative changes.

We think this topic will be of particular interest to our members, but all are welcome to attend.
